B.  Course Objectives.  Build a basic understanding of the value and uses of information systems for business operation, management decision making, and strategic advantage.  Thus, it will provide students with an understanding of the ways in which they can utilize information systems as end user managers.  It concentrates on providing the tools needed for mastery of the information systems concepts and terms which are important to end user managers.  This course is designed for all business students, NOT JUST information systems majors, but who expect to be managerial end users of information systems.

Evaluation Items

Midterm Exams
The exams can be a combination of multiple choice, essay and short answer based on the text, class discussion and cases .

Group Topic/Presentations 

Topic
Refer to the Table of Contents of the Text.  Any topic, approved by the instructor, related to MIS.

Only one group per topic

Organization
There will be 5 students per group.  Each group will be responsible for monitoring member workload
NOTE: Do not submit in a folder, envelop, or cover

Presentation
Each group member will share equally in the formal PowerPoint presentation

Participation
It is expected that all students will come to class having read the chapter that we will discussing that day . Another area that is part of this grade is your effort to move the class forward in our exploration of Information Systems and your contribution in evaluating your classmates' presentations will all be taken into account in this area of evaluation.

 

D.  Other Course Policies.  
ATTENDANCE
Students are required to attend all lectures. In the event of an impending absence please notify the instructor. It is the student’s responsibility to obtain the material and information presented in a lecture that the student has missed.

During exams - no cell phones, pda's, computers, paper or electronic dictionaries or any other electronic device is allowed to be used. Any deviation from this will result in a failure for the course.

GROUP FORMATION
Students are responsible for forming their own groups consisting of 5 individuals. Group marks will be shared equally. Thus, each group will be responsible for the equitable allocation of workload.
