Class Location: B 760 (Science Education Lab – University Hall)The science education curriculum and Instruction module consists of 39 hours of instruction focused on effective medium term (unit) planning. The intent of the course is to foster the student’s development as a teacher of science. This course will invoke and integrate concepts from theories of “Understanding by Design” (Wiggins & McTighe, 2005) relevant to the planning, instruction, and assessment of outcomes-based teaching-learning activities. The course will explore: effective science unit and lesson planning, science education outcomes in the Alberta Science Programs of Study, print and electronic resources for science education, instructional strategies for science education, integration of computer technology in science planning and instruction, student assessment and evaluation strategies and practices for science education, and classroom management and leadership for the science classroom.
